Manufactured in May 1961 and dispatched to Jaguar Cars New York, this is one of the earliest E-types manufactured. The archivists at the Jaguar Heritage Archive confirmed that this is around the 68th E-type built and was the 39th left-hand-drive roadster produced. The car made its way to it's first owner in Illinois who owned it for around 5 years, from there it passed through three further owners in the US, before being acquired in June 2013 by an Italian dealer. The car was quickly purchased in August of the same year, by it's current owner as a restoration project. Despite needing restoration, the car was by no means a "basket case" - it would seem that the car had little use during its time in the US, and would appear to have been stored well-away from the elements. The E-type was found to be largely original, and most importantly it still had its original engine block, cylinder head and gearbox. A meticulous restoration was carried out over the next nine years, with the focus on retaining the car's original features. The restoration was documented with thousands of digital images which are included in the history file of the car. Completed in early 2021, the car has covered just under three thousand miles since and having been prepared by the workshops here at Jaguar Classic is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
